Promoting your sale in advance can build excitement and anticipation, which often leads to increased traffic and sales leading up to the event. However, it's important to balance that with your current sales goals.

Here are a few strategies:

Tease the Sale: Start with a teaser campaign. Announce that something big is coming without revealing all the details. This can create buzz without impacting your current sales too much.

Limited-Time Offers: Consider offering smaller promotions leading up to the big sale. This can keep customers engaged without overshadowing your main event.

Countdown: As you get closer to the sale, ramp up your promotion with a countdown or sneak peeks of what's to come.

Targeted Ads: Use targeted advertising to reach customers who are likely to engage, rather than a broad promotion that might dilute your current sales.

Could Advertising Too Soon For My Big Sale Event Hurt My Current Sales?

Ultimately, starting early can be beneficial, but just be strategic about how you do it! It's a possibility that some of your current sales will suffer a bit if the promotion is too strong or if customers decide to wait for the sale instead of shopping now. However, if you tease the event and create excitement without giving away too much, you can maintain interest in your current offerings while building anticipation for the sale. It's all about finding the right balance! For example, if you are going to have a "Black Friday" sale and promote it as your "biggest sale and lowest priced event of the year".. then sure, we could all assume your current sales will suffer a bit. For another example, if your store mostly sells custom one-of-a-kind items or hand-crafted items or maybe most of your items are regularly priced $20 or less, and then your upcoming sale is only 10-20% off, then I wouldn't think your current sales might suffer as much - do your advertising sooner for your event and get as many people coming to your store to look around! With custom items or most of your items priced $20 or less, most people will probably have FOMO (Fear of missing out) if they don't go head and purchase an item now instead of waiting for your sale.
